Community Gardening

Anathoth is different than other community gardens. We don’t have individual plots that people work on their own. Instead all of our work is shared. We believe that growing food together is good for the health of our community. We learn and practice teamwork, patience, generosity and good listening skills from working side-by-side. Growing community is just as important as growing lettuce, strawberries or tomatoes. Eating together twice a week is an important part of our community, too. During our growing season, we eat together every Saturday at noon, sharing a potluck meal, and every Tuesday evening at 6pm.

Consider becoming a member of Anathoth. It costs a $5 minimum and we ask that you work 2 hours a week, or 8 hours a month. In exchange you will be able to take home whatever produce we are harvesting at the time. In the spring this could be lettuce, asparagus, strawberries, broccoli and swiss chard (to name a few). In the summer this could be tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers and corn (and so much more!). In the fall this could be collards, lettuce, squashes, broccoli and cabbage. In addition to receiving food, you will also be a part of a community that cares about one another, learns from each other and benefits from the involvement of each and every member, whatever the ability, age or gardening experience!

Additionally, we are a chemical free garden. We grow everything “organically,” practicing sustainable farming methods for the health of the soil, our food and our bodies. There are no sprays, no tractors, and no chemicals at all to worry about.
