Anathoth Community Garden Newsletter

June 2007

Greetings,

Our 1st person account this month comes to us from our three new interns.

Zach Clute-Reinig:

I have two last names because my parents couldn’t decide on one or the other. I was born in a small town in Idaho and moved to another small town in California when I was very young. I have a busy family composed of my sister Katie, my brother Nick, a dog named Athena, a cat named “cat,” and a set of parents named Vincent and Christy. I know it’s cliché to say this, but music is a big part of my life. I taught myself how to play guitar two years ago, and I’ve been slowly improving ever since. I enjoy listening to a wide variety of musical genres, from bluegrass to R&B. I am a huge Jack Johnson fan. Also very cliché, but what can I say? English literature is my passion. My major is English/Secondary Ed., with a minor in Spanish. I attend the University of Portland in Oregon.

Andrew Williams:

I was a Valedictorian at Gladstone High School near Portland, Oregon. While there I participated in track and soccer. My proudest moment was being chosen Player of the Year for the tri-valley league, which contained 5 of the top 10 teams in the state. I also love racquetball and rock climbing, though I’m not particularly talented in either. I now attend Univ. of Portland, where I’m majoring in Biology/Pre-med. I hope to become an orthopedic surgeon. My favorite music is anything acoustic. I think the best artists are usually singer/song-writers. Favorites include: Teitur, Regina Spektor, and Joe Purdy. Favorite TV shows are “Planet Earth” and “Life of Mammals” with David Attenborough, and a comedy called “The Office.”

Larry Rogers:

Hey Cedar Grove. I’m Larry and I’m from Burlington. It’s been a pleasure meeting the few of you that I have met. For those of you whom I haven’t met, or who don’t know much about me, I am currently in the transfer program at Alamance Community College. I don’t quite know what I’ll be studying in the future, but right now I’m mostly interested in music (I play in a band), interpretation of scripture ( I read a lot), organic farming (of course), and most recently, saving gas money by buying a small motorcycle.

From the perspective of the garden manager I’ll say that these three men, along with our Duke Divinity student Kate Svajian, are a joy to have with us this summer. Please consider inviting them over for dinner and get to know them better.--FB
