Anathoth Community Garden Newsletter
February 2008

Greetings in this, the beginning of our third season at Anathoth Community Garden. We continue to grow, and have some exciting events in store for this year.

We will kick off the year with a Season-Opener Gathering Saturday Feb.2nd where we’ll make plans for 2008 and share a potluck lunch. Come ready to celebrate what we’ve accomplished, offer ideas for how we can grow and better serve this community, and tell us ways you can contribute your talents to the garden this coming year. All are welcome, especially newcomers.
Discussion at 11am, potluck at noon. In case of rain we’ll meet at Cedar Grove UMC.

February Workdays: beginning Feb.2nd, every Sat. 9-12noon potluck following. Mid-week days vary, but most Mon. and Fri. afternoons, 2-5pm. Check with Fred.

Attention photographers: those of you who’ve been meeting with Taj Forer and shooting photos of the garden, Taj wants you to join him for an editing workshop Saturday Feb. 2nd , 10am at the church. There you’ll begin to choose which photos you’d like to display for a public showing. Come to the photo workshop then head to the garden for the new year kick-off afterward. Newcomers welcome, too.

Finally, I want to encourage you to sign up for some (or all) of the following workshops. Thanks to a generous grant from Heifer Project, we’ve partnered with Seagrove UMC and Fuquay UMC to form a network of church-supported gardens. We’ll be teaching a series of workshops geared toward beginner/intermediate gardeners, covering the basics from soil to supper, harvesting to hospitality, compost to companion-planting. Heifer has tasked us with the twin goals of helping other churches start their own gardens, and empowering disenfranchised communities to learn how to grow their own food. However, these workshops are not limited to those groups. Anyone with an interest in learning more about local food and community is welcome to attend. Workshops are free. See below for how to register.
